According to the Nintendo Jobs Page, the company is after people in the Redmond, WA area who have experience developing software for USB devices. I copied and pasted, below. However, when I tried to find this post later on, it seemed to have vanished.

CONTRACT - Software/Hardware Tester

Description of Duties:

* Creating and executing a test plan for Wii's USB devices
* Executing test plans with great attention to detail and documenting bugs
* Writing test procedure documents, gathering, and learning required software/hardware
* Reproducing bug reports and helping find work-arounds or resolutions

Summary of Requirements:

* Extremely thorough with keen attention to detail and accuracy
* Able to execute scripted tasks lists with regular repetition
* Ability to reliably report and track defects via spreadsheets or other bug tracking software with great detail

** This is a CONTRACT position

Now, obviously this isn't confirmation that Nintendo will be creating USB attachments for the Wii, but it's a strong hint. If so, who knows what may come out. Maybe fans that blow jets of air onto the intense Wii Fit players? Maybe LED gadgets that create a lightshow for those Guitar Hero fanatics? Or how about a USB hard drive/memory card? And a USB security lock to ensure that your memory doesn't get hacked or lost would be nice.

One thing I wonder about--why develop a USB controller if the current one is wireless?
