This fall, your can take one small step toward becoming a Special Ops soldier. No, I'm not talking about a Call of Duty game--I'm talking about the Jakks Pacific Eyeclops Night Vision Goggles. This isn't the cheap crap we got as kids, with the bad flashlight and green filter: The goggles are powered by infrared-driven night-vision technology. Jakks claims that visibility is up to 50 feet away in complete darkness. Retailing for $79.99, the Eyeclops will be available this fall.

Who's up for paintball in the dark?

Love to see the specifications on this. No one ever wants to pay for "real" see in the dark goggles, but if these are useful in any way, they should be a good sales item.

If it really works out to 50ft I think that there will be many more "big" kids buying this (me being one of them). I saw in the paper that these goggles require 5 AA batteries with a 3 hour usage before they are drained, so batteries will become the main expense with these if the person plans on using them often. But other than that it looks like a smart buy for those weekend soldiers of fortune that can't buy all the fancy toys. Plus you can look like Sam Fisher from "Splinter Cell"!

Whether they work up to 50 ft. or not, I'm still getting a pair. They're only $80, so there isn't much of a loss if they fail to meet the expected performance level.
Besides, if you're in close quarters 50 ft. is a lot farther than any distance you'll need anyways. One question though: Do they emit a lot of light or just a small amount? Guess I'll have to wait and see.

i saw a proto type and it emits way too much light so its just like a wearable flashlight :(

Even if it emits too much visible light you could probably place some IR filters in front of the LEDs so only the IR light passes through and does not give up your position.

IDK for night paintball, if everyone was using them u could see their IR LED's and would make it easier to target ur friends... so much for sneaky sneaky... also I doubt you could wear it over a P'Ball mask, so it gives you more of a chance of getting hit in the face and it hurting!!! I'll probably use them for cave hunting, with regular goggles that use starlight and enhance low light, these emit light invisible light making them usable in pitch black...

just to let you guys know, night vision goggles pick up IR light. Since the IR lights let you see 50 feet, your enemy can see you as well. Novelty item only, I wouldn't use them for paintball.

Just F.Y.I., the goggles are already out. They came out August 1st. Can anyone who has gotten them tell me how well they actually work?

Why dont you all get off the computer and get a job! for paintball you could get a REAL night vision scope for a little under $2,000!!! They really work to!!!

I got a pair; and let me tell ya, they do work! It comes with two modes: Stealth, and Surveillance. Stealth mode emits light that is not visible to the human eye. So yeah, in pitch black someone could walk right past you and not see a thing. Surveillance mode gives the full 50ft of vision using small IR lights. This could give away your position up close, but why use it in close quarters. My only complaint is one LCD screen positioned directly in front of your right eye. It should've had two or one big enough for both eyes. Bottom line, it was worth $80. Wish they had stuff like this when I was a kid.

My son got one for Christmas and they work very well. They are hard on batteries so I recommend rechargables. The light on top can be turned on or off. When turned on the camera picks up much more detail, however, it still works very well when the head light is turned off. The only con is that the plastic pins that hold the rubberized head strap are very thin and break very easily.
