And it's for real: the Honda FCX Clarity, the company's zero-emission, hydrogen fuel cell car, has officially rolled off a Japanese production line Monday and is headed to southern California, the Associated Press is reporting. In California, the company will make a few dozen of these available for $600 per month in a three-year lease, with about 200 more to follow in 2009.
The FCX Clarity, which runs on hydrogen and electricity, emits only water and none of the gases believed to induce global warming, the report said. It is also "two times more energy efficient than a gas-electric hybrid and three times that of a standard gasoline-powered car," the company said in a statement. The first few customers include actress Jamie Lee Curtis and her filmmaker husband Christopher Guest, along with actress Laura Harris, film producer Ron Yerxa, and businessmen Jon Spallino and Jim Salomon.
