If the kids are begging for a dog, a dinosaur feels like a bit of overkill. A responsive, touch-sensitive golden retriever or beagle robot, though? Now we're talkin'. The Gearlog gang frittered away more time at today's Hasbro's line show with a pair of robotic pups named Biscuit and Tumbles, both part of the FurReal Friends line (you may remember our pal Squawkers McCaw from last year's line).
Biscuit ($179.99, for ages 5 and up) stands a little over 2 feet tall when parked on his caboose and has sensors on his head, nose, back, and ears: When you pet him, he responds eerily like a real-world dog, right down to the tail-wagging. He also responds to six voice commands, including "sit up and beg," "give me a paw," and "speak." Biscuit has moving eyes, ears, head, and a realistic bark.
Biscuit's tinier counterpart, Tumbles ($39.99, for ages 4 and up), only has one trick, but it's a goodie. Lay him on his back and scratch his belly, and he will roll over and wiggle his body like a real pup. Sensors on his back are also responsive to petting and cause yet more wiggling and cooing puppy sounds.
Both dogs will be available in the fall.
Check out our hands-on video of both pups in action after the jump.
