If you're looking for your next performance car, AutoWeek posted a list of four-cylinder models that are both fast and relatively frugal. Some of the choices are a little surprising—the automatic Acura RDX may be good for a crossover, but I wouldn't reach for that one first. For the most part, though, the list serves as a decent guide for anyone who wants to head for greener pastures while still enjoying the drive along the way.
Topping the list was the new 2009 VW Jetta TDI which averages 34 mpg. The base Mini Cooper, the Yaris, the Fit, and the Corolla round out the five cars that average 30 or more mpg. There are also a number of much faster cars that average in the low 20's, such as the Honda S2000 and the Lotus Exige S 240. Check out the complete list here.
