Fantom Drives announced today a plan to reduce power consumption and the use of toxic materials both in its operations and manufacturing facilities as well as in product lines. The company also unveiled the new G-Force GreenDrive line of external USB and eSATA disk drives, which, according to the company, feature advances in power-saving technology.
"Fantom Drives' GreenDrive line utilizes variable speed disk mechanisms that increase rotational velocity of the disk in response to host demand, resulting in virtually no performance degradation," said Fantom in a press release. "Furthermore, the reduction in power requirements results in lower platter temperatures which extends the life of these drives."
GreenDrives will be available in 500GB ($125.00) and 1TB ($239.00) models later this month.
