best%20buy%20logo.JPGGiven all the gadgets that Gearlog and other blogs tell you about, it's no surprise that your closets may be stuffed with the things. What to do? Well, if you live in the San Francisco, Minneapolis, or Baltimore areas, you can bring your old gear back to Best Buy for free. Contrast that with programs from stores lie Staples, which will charge you $10 per item.

The retailing giant is testing out a program in 117 stores in the three areas. Consumers can bring in two items per day, of the following: computers, phones, cameras, and TVs up to 32 inches.

Here's what you can't bring in:

  • Televisions or monitor screens greater than 32"
  • Console televisions
  • Air conditioners
  • Microwaves
  • Appliances (customers are invited instead to use Best Buy's appliance haul-away and pick-up programs)

If you have an old big-screen TV, however, Best Buy will haul it away for free if you buy a new one. And for $100, they'll pick up two major appliances.
