The sleek, all-electric Tesla Roadster is finally here! Following the news of its production kickoff at the Lotus factory in England, the electric car company opened its first retail showroom on May 1, in Los Angeles, CA.
Attracting a swarm of reporters, Tesla's flagship store, located right in the crosshairs of Hollywood and Beverly Hills, is set to make good on some 600 outstanding orders of the swanky electric roadster. The company says that the next dealership is already on its way and will be built in the city of San Carlos, near Tesla's headquarters in the Silicon Valley. The Associated Press also reported that "more stores are planned for Chicago, New York and other cities by early next year."
Intended for the wealthiest of eco-minded car buyers, the 2008 Tesla Roadster is $109,000 at base, with a fully loaded model reaching as high as $124,000. Though ultimately the company plans to release a more affordable family EV. "There's a model in the works right now, a five-passenger sedan that will be styled comparable to the roadster but a lot roomier to accommodate families, and that is slated for 2010," said Tesla's services manager Jeremy Snyder.
