If you're a computer or gadget enthusiast, chances are you've ordered something from New Egg in the past, whether it was a stick of RAM, a motherboard, or a fully loaded gaming rig. And if you live on the East Coast, chances are your order was processed at the company's New Jersey warehouse before being shipped to your door.
Have you ever wondered what the inside of the operation might look like? Of course you have, and you're in luck. AnandTech writer Lal Shimpi recently took a tour, and brought back some great pictures that show just how much tech is involved in getting those components to your anxious hands in just a couple days.
The inventory system is constantly aware of the location of some 20,000 items, and LED-equipped shelves tell employees just which motherboard you ordered, and how many; the whole process is pretty amazing. And I didn't even mention the peanut gun or the boxing machine. Head over to AnandTech and have a look for yourself. Trust me, it's way more interesting than the pictures your aunt brought back from her trip to Europe. And who knows, if you ordered something from New Egg in the last couple weeks, you might even catch a glimpse of the red tote that carted your order around the warehouse.
