According to a recent survey conducted by Clark, Martire & Bartolomeo on behalf of ad agency Prime Access and PlanetOut, Apple joins such companies as Bravo, Showtime, HBO, Absolut, and Levi's as the most "gay-friendly" brands. On the other end of the spectrum, Korean manufacturer Samsung joins WalMart, Dunkin Donuts, Cracker Barrel, and Exxon Mobil as the most "unfriendly" companies.

2,259 adults aged 18-64 were interviewed for the survey, including 1,502 "general population" respondents and 757 gay and lesbian respondents. The study found that nearly 68 percent of the latter group are "likely to buy from a company they considered to be gay-friendly, a perception they base largely on a company's advertising, followed by input from friends and the media."

"The survey reveals that gays and lesbians are fiercely loyal customers to brands they perceive as reaching out to them," said said Prime Access's CEO, Howard Buford. "A marketing communications program directed at the gay and lesbian audience can be a significant opportunity for brands to build business."

Is this supposed to be important? Personally, I would never do business with the likes of Exxon-Mobil or Walmart, both pro-Bush Republican (fascist) companies. Apple, on the other hand, along with Google and a few other companies, are smart, forward-thinkers and honest for the most part. If that makes them "gay friendly", I don't have a problem with that.

I wouldn't go so far to say that the Republican's are fascist. Of course since I am Republican that would only stand to reason. Anyway that's not the point. I would agree and say that Apple and Google mainly Google are my two top favorite companies. I'm not gay and I really don't know anyone that is gay. But it is true that they are forward thinkers and they are great companies that come out with great products.

Why is it so important to the gay community to identitify themselves, a lifestyle, as a market opportunity. If this is goodness, why then are Christians, Muslims, Jews, or other sects chastized when attempting to do the same? Is there bias? Is a company's friendliness measured by their charitable donations to a particular group--- is corp. America held hostage by the gays taunting their market size while other lifestyle communities go on about their life?

I agree. Why is this article even in here?It has nothing to do with "gear".Well,I guess that depends on how you define "gear".Is gear log trying to present THEMSELVES as friendly to the gay and lesbian community? If so,that's pretty crappy and deceptive in my opinion.

Unimportant. Carry on, nothing to see here.
