Sea Life DC800_Housing_Camera.jpgHave I told you about Clicky? Clicky's my go-to camera, an original Canon Digital Rebel 300D with 40,000+ shots recorded.

Hey, when your camera has a name, you know there's more than a casual relationship!

Clicky, unfortunately, doesn't do water. We all have our shortcoming. Clicky would be the wrong camera for a weekend at the beach or a cruise up the Niagara River toward Niagara Falls (note - this is much safer than floating down the Niagara River toward Niagara Falls)

That's why my ears perked up (or, maybe my shooting finger just twitched... who can tell) when I saw SeaLife's new DC800 8-megapixel camera. Splash it or dunk it, it's happy to get wet... in fact, happy to go up to 200 feet below the water's surface!

At first, I was confused. It looked like two cameras. Truth is, the DC800 is ready for water because it can be packed away in its own waterproof housing. If you're going to stay dry, pop the camera out for a slimmer, more conventional look.

Underwater photos aren't just about keeping the camera out of harm's way. You also adjust for the color temperature of the underwater light.

The DC800 features five unique underwater modes. The Sea mode exposure program has three UW color correction settings (Oceans Blue, Oceans Green, Rivers/Lakes)

Considering the 'mere mortal' specs of 8 Megapixels and 4X zoom (I discard any mention of the camera's digital zoom, also known as the Silly Putty method of photo enlargement), this is a pricey point-and-shoot at $550. But, if you're going to get wet and want to bring home the memories, it starts to look sweeter.
