I met WowWee's pint-sized Tribot entertainment robot earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Like most WowWee creations, it was a real hoot, full of fake personality. We still haven't received our test unit from WowWee, but my buddy Robert Oschler at Robotsrule.com not only got one, but must have spend a hundred hours with the Tribot. He tested everything.
Tribot has a three-wheelbase that Robert says, lets the robot "turn on a dime" and a tilt sensor that tells the Tribot when it's been pushed over. At CES, Tribot called out with marginally funny and utterly forgettable phrases (so much so that I can't recall them here) whenever he was pushed over. The robo-toy can play games, follow you and works with a unique gyroscopic remote--a real innovation over other WowWee remotes that lets you control Tribot's direction by simply tilting the remote in one direction or another.
There's a bunch more detail in the review and a video. Overall, Robert called Tribot "fun," "whimsical", "entertaining," and "easy-to-use" and thinks WowWee has a hit on its hands. I'll withhold judgment until we get our test unit. Tribot should ship later this year and is expected to retail for around $99.
