double LCD panel thumb.JPGAt SID 2008, aside from its AMOLED panel for OLED TV and other eco-friendly screens, LG Display also presented a reflective panel which can allegedly show different images on both sides--in short, a double-sided LCD panel. Using the reflective type of electrically controlled birefringence (ECB) as the display mode, the need for backlighting is completely eliminated and outdoor visibility is improved. These conditions make the double-sided LCD panel ideal for mobile devices. In fact, as an example, TechOn states that the LCD panel could serve not only as the main display for a mobile phone, but the sub-display as well. LG Display presented two prototypes of the technology; a minute 2.2-inch version and a larger 15-inch screen, both of which exhibit 20 percent reflectivity. The 15-inch prototype, by the bye, has a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. I wonder if, in the future, two people can watch different programs on television on either sides of the screen. Quite cool, eh?
