I can't say whether or not the PC Magazine reviews team has the long-rumored desktop version of the Eee PC in their testing labs, because a.) I don't physically work there and b.) they probably have a signed NDA agreement that I'm not privy to. That's the way the reviews teams have to work. However, Asus has already told us that the Eee Box will launch next week at the Computex show in Taiwan.
So I can't say for certain whether or not tech site Anandtech was also bound by an NDA. I would assume not, since Anand Lal Shimpi has apparently been cleared to post pics of the thing. No word yet on pricing or performance benchmarks, but here are the specs, as cited by Anand:
"The machine I received features a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor paired with an Intel 945G chipset, 1GB of DDR2-667 memory (a single SO-DIMM module is installed) and a 160GB Seagate Momentus 5400.4 2.5" SATA hard drive. There is no optical drive but the machine has built in Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless. Bluetooth is also built in so you can setup the machine to only have two wires coming out of it (DC power and DVI out to your monitor)."
Likewise, MSI also released a sample of the MSI Wind UMPC, to VR-Zone, which the site also takes apart. (In my cursory read, I didn't see a reference to "breaking wind" in their dissection, to their credit.) The UMPC is somewhat bigger than the UMPC, based upon the included 80 Gbyte rotating hard disk. The unit also uses the Intel Atom, the Intel 945 GMS chipset, and a gigabyte of RAM (with room for another).
Acer's upcoming Aspire One has also made an appearance. If there's on thing the Taiwan companies are known for, it's leaks. But this is crazy!
