GreenGrandPrix.jpgOver the weekend in New York, 46 alternative fuel cars—including an '88 Isuzu Trooper powered by wood chips—participated in the fourth annual Green Grand Prix. This year's winners included a biodiesel-powered Harley, which scored 89 MPG, and a Chevy Equinox with a hydrogen fuel cell. Other entries spanned the gamut from hybrids and flex fuel vehicles, to cars powered by liquid propane, electricity, compressed natural gas, and vegetable oil, according to a Associated Press report.

The race is similar to the Jetta TDI Cup we reported on a few weeks ago—the idea is to bring some attention to environmental issues such as energy independence and solving global warming, and in particular, alternative fuel-powered vehicles that show what's possible with today's technology.
