AutoblogGreen asks a question that's on the minds of many consumers: How far must you drive your hybrid before it pays off? To answer the question, they ran the numbers on a slew of popular vehicles, including the Prius, the Civic Hybrid, the Malibu, the Saturn Aura, and more, focusing mainly on four-cylinder models and 4WD/AWD versions of hybrid SUVs.
The site found that you'll pay off the difference of a Civic Hybrid after 97,000 miles of highway driving, or 86,000 miles of city driving. The difference was greater for the Malibu: 200,000 miles of highway driving or 100,000 miles of city driving. Meanwhile, the Camry Hybrid would pay off the difference between its cost and the cost of a regular Camry after 300,000 miles of highway driving, but just 70,000 miles of city driving. Check out the report; there's lots of detail, including power and cost-per-mile figures.
