Looking for the perfect gift for your madre on Mother's Day? ViewSonic introduced ten customizable digital photo frames on Wednesday, starting at a mere $139.
The 7-, 8- and 10-inch photo frames feature interchangeable bezels (including wood, black and silver, or black and white), 256MB of internal memory, USB port for viewing photos on a thumb drive, memory card slots, andsomething not offered on most framesa built-in battery to avoid cable clutter. According to a company rep, the internal battery lasts about an hour and is rechargeable.
The ViewSonic widescreen DPX1002WD (the company's first 10-inch frame, pictured here), supports a variety of formats, including JPEG, BMP, motion JPEG, MPEG1/MPEG4, and MP3. The DPX1002's screen has 1024-by-600 resolution, 400 cd/m2 adjustable brightness, and 400:1 contrast ratio. It also features a calendar, alarm clock, multi-language option, and remote control to conveniently access the frame's menu system.

The 8-inch DPX802WD, DPX802WD-BW, and DPX802BSL-BW digital photo frames offer 800-by-600 resolution, 250 brightness, 500:1 contrast ratio, and various slideshow transitions. The built-in speaker can be used to play audio with your photo slideshow.
The widescreen 7-inch DPX702BSL-BW, DPX702WD-BW, and DPX702WD feature 800-by-480 resolution, 220 cd/m2 adjustable brightness, and a 400:1 contrast ratio. They can display JPEG or BMP files and offer multiple slideshow options including speed, effect, language, and rotation adjustments.
For a more traditional digital photo frame, ViewSonic also released the 7-inch widescreen DPX704WH, 8-inch 4:3 DPX804WH, and 10-inch widescreen DPX1004WH. These three photo frames are said to include a sleek white finish, 128MB of internal memory, compatibility with multiple video, audio, and photo formats, as well as alarm, clock, and calendar features.
The frames are currently available with estimated street prices of $139 for the 7-inch, $149 for the 8-inch, and 10-inch models starting at $179. All are backed by a one-year limited warranty and will be sold through authorized ViewSonic resellers, distributors, retailers and e-tailers.
Here's an interesting forecast from the company: "Worldwide shipments of digital photo frames are expected to reach 42.3 million units by 2011, with price as the major purchase influencer." It's amazing how popular digital photo frames have become, and price will always be a factor when it comes to selecting the right one. In my opinion, you shouldn't have to pay anymore than $150 for a quality photo frame. And if the features (Wi-Fi, MP3 capability, HDMI port) are getting in the way of making a purchasing decision, stick to the more traditional frame. Sometimes all of those features are just a waste.
