Verizon Wireless just announced its latest VZ Navigator version by Networks in Motion. The new version features a number of enhancements, such as real-time traffic for 75 cities, local event information, weather forecasts, gas prices (along with the ability to get directions to the nearest station with the lowest price), and a new 3D perspective view similar to what you'd find on standalone portable GPS devices.
The traffic reports will include traffic incidents, traffic updates, and directions for detours around traffic congestion and accidents. VZ Navigator will now take into account both historical traffic data—as in which roads have the most congestion, traffic lights, and so on—along with real-time data. The company plans to add more cities to the service throughout the year.
The company claims that VZ Navigator is the most popular GPS navigation service on mobile phones in the country. It offers turn-by-turn navigation application and local search of 14 million points of interest for $9.99/month, or $2.99/day, on GPS-enabled mobile phones and smartphones.
