This just in from CTIA: The Slacker Portable player will now work with Wi-Fi hotspots. Hurray! Basically, up until now, the device has been able to refresh content only on home or work wireless networks, but now you can update your Slacker internet radio stations at Starbucks, McDonalds, the airport, or anywhere else you eat and drink unhealthily.
Slacker's partner-in-crime is Devicescape Software. The update to the player will utilize Devicescape Connect, allowing easier access to just about any Wi-Fi network you can throw at the player--"effortlessly" (Slacker's word, not ours).
The new firmware upgrade is available today, April 2nd, for free to all Slacker Portable owners. And, of course, it will be included on the device for any new consumers.

This is good news. Do you know if this will work when I travel?

Nope, this is for Slacker only--Slacker has partnered with the software company. And yes, the whole point is that it will work when you are traveling and want to use, say, airport Wi-Fi.
