An eco-friendly golf cart? E-Z-GO, a subsidiary of Textron, just introduced the Freedom RXV. It's available in both gas and electric versions; the quiet electric model requires less energy to charge and operate while reducing hazardous waste, and the gas model is compliant with the stringent emissions standards of the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The Freedom's seats are also made from 100-percent recycled foam, and—this one is a stretch, if you ask me—the "body was designed to minimize water usage when washing."

The cart features some actual tech innovations, though. The Freedom RXV's industry-first dual-braking system eliminates the manual parking brake on the electric-powered vehicle, the company said in a statement. It also brakes automatically on steep grades. Meanwhile, there are energy-transfer bumpers on the front, rear and sides that are rated to withstand collisions of 5 MPH. Finally, the electric version features a 48-volt alternating-current motor, instead of the traditional direct-current type, which the company claims is 30 percent more efficient than competing models.
