At CTIA, Sony Ericsson was showing a new build of their super-cool Xperia X1 Windows Mobile phone. The X1 is months away from final - we're likely to see it around August, Sony Ericsson's folks said - but there's already some interesting software on board.
The X1's user interface is based on panels, which look like miniaturized screens. But they aren't miniaturized screens; some are bonafide XML or native applications, and some are mashups of Web content and stuff on the device. This "magic fish" panel is one of the most interesting. The fish each represent part of the status of the device. The black fish is showing that the battery is low; if there was more battery, he'd be gold. The gray fish is the sound fish - since the phone is muted, he's gray rather than gold. Neat, huh? It's like the Ambient Orb, but as a Windows Mobile screen saver. It's also quite soothing.

No carrier has been announced yet, but it'll have to be either AT&T or T-Mobile.
