The standardized user interface on Verizon Wireless phones has been the source of frustration for many geeks. When Verizon makes changes, they usually make them on LG phones first, and they seem to have turned over a new leaf with the new LG enV2.
First change: The old "Get It Now" menu option, which was an incomprehensible moniker for music, video and photo commands, has been replaced by a much more comprehensible "Media Center."
Second change: There are now two possible layouts of home screen icons: a messaging-focused one that puts ringtones, instant messaging and email on the home screen, and a new media-focused one (shown at left) that puts games, videos and VZ Navigator right on the home screen. Okay, maybe it's not totally customizable, but this is Verizon - it's a step forwards.
Third change: Well, this is just a change from the original enV, but it's a welcome one - the dedicated email button on the keypad has been replaced by an all-purpose, user-configurable shortcuts button.
LG reps said that the change from "Get It Now" to "Media Center" will be spreading over all of Verizon's phones, so let's hope that some additional UI configurability will spread, too.
