2009_Mazda6.jpg

Mazda finally unveiled our version of the 2009 Mazda6 sedan, and it's a beauty. It also has its work cut out for it, given recent, strong redesigns from Honda, Toyota, and Chevy in the same segment. The Mazda6 is ready for a fight, though, with revamped 2.5 liter four and 3.7 liter six-cylinder engines, a six-speed manual transmission with both engines (five and six-speed manumatic transmissions are available for the four and six, respectively), and three trim levels: Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring.

I spent a lot of seat time in a Mazda6 with the four-cylinder engine after its release in 2003 and liked the car a lot. It didn't hold its value at resale, and it had little low-end torque. But it looked nice inside and out and had razor sharp handling, and it also averaged about 29 mpg on long highway trips. More on the new Mazda6's interior tech options as we get them.
