Fans of solid-state (Flash) drives will be pleased to hear that Toshiba is laying claim to the first notebook with a built-in 128GB SSD drive, with its Dynabook SS RX1. The super-skinny notebook also boasts an internal optical drive, a 1.2-GHz Core 2 Duo processor, a 12.1-inch, 1280-by-800 pixel screen, and an extremely impressive 12.5 hours of battery life.
When it drops in April, the notebook will also be available with a standard 80GB spinning hard drive, for those who are still wary of one of the final hurdles between consumers and widespread SSD adoption: the price. Those willing to splurge will be able to pick up the 128 GB SSD model for a cool $4,000.

That's gotta be some serious sticker shock.
Still though, if the computer really does have 12 hours of battery life that could make it worth it for many people...

One thing I've been curious about for a while in a lot of these newer SSD laptops like the Macbook Air and now in this Toshiba is whether or not the device does or can be configured to do instant-on, since you could theoretically store your system state on the SSD. It'd be really cool if these new SSD laptops took one or two seconds to wake up and return to its previous state instead of having to boot and whatnot.
I also wonder if that Toshiba has an HD-DVD drive in it. ZING! ;)

As to whether or not an HD-DVD will be included, i think not. My question is will there be a Blu-Ray DVD player. Think not since it's Dual-Layer. But this is a serious advance for a notebook. The MacBook Air has a lot of setbacks, such as no DVD, a single USB port, less memory and a high price for basically not much. Toshiba seems to have put some thought into this one. I have the bucks, and really want a notebook and desktop with a SSD. But the price is still too high and the memory too little for my use. SSD's will come down in price just like any other piece of hardware and the memory will only get larger.
