zzzphone.jpg You may soon be seeing a review of the zzzPhone, the bizarre made-to-order Chinese cell phone with strangely shifting specs. I got an email from zzzPhone over the weekend that my phone is on its way. Even more interestingly, the email mentions "a major announcement to come later this week regarding a move towards the Google Android Operating System."

The OS running on the zzzPhone has been a topic of some debate. At first, zzzPhone said they were flirting with Windows. Then John Biggs at CrunchGear scoped out that it wasn't running anything Windows-like. Now zzzPhone is saying they run a proprietary OS and that "our operating system comes installed on our Taiwanese MTK-6226 chips." The MTK 6226 is a midrange Chinese phone CPU that I'm afraid to say I'm not very familiar with, as a US based writer. But actually loading Android on board these things would definitely give them a boost.

As nobody's yet handled a zzzPhone, it's hard to draw any conclusions. I'll tell you when I get mine. Full text of zzzPhone's mass email after the jump.

Sascha ends here. zzzPhone email begins here.

Thank you for your interest in zzzPhone and our customized cell phone products.

We are pleased to report that we have received an overwhelming response from the public, and from interested resellers, and are working as fast as possible to pace the incredible demand for our phones and reseller opportunities. For customers that have placed orders for the zzzPhone and want to know the status of their order, We assure you that initial orders are shipping this week from our state of the art factory according to schedule. Please understand that most of the initial orders were placed during the Chinese New Year Holiday, which also happened to coincide with one of the worst nation-wide snowstorms in history.(people dieing, power outages, ect.) Despite this, we are scheduled to ship the majority of ALL current orders this week, and you should receive your zzzPhone shortly (GPS, TV Tuner, and high resolution camera customers must still wait for their phones to be produced per notice when you ordered).

Furthermore, we are working diligently to improve the state of our customer service response system, and have recently hired more staff to address your customer service inquiries. For White label Affiliate members, we have sorted out the issues with the Phase 1 roll-out of the white label program, and have replaced the original I Frame API with a newer JavaScript based API- please login to your administration panel and locate your new code and replace any existing code on your website: both codes should work for now, but as we continue to develop the API, the JavaScript API will be the only supported script.

Please note that we have a number of exciting developments on the immediate horizon for zzzPhone, including a Preferred Affiliate tier for larger and more established White label members, and a major announcement to come later this week regarding a move towards the Google Android Operating System. We feel good about our success thus far, and expect our cell phone revolution to continue its magnificent path forward. We value your business and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced during the BETA launch of our service.

Good Gravy, I hope that the email was copied verbatim, because of the following statement:

"Please understand that most of the initial orders were placed during the Chinese New Year Holiday, which also happened to coincide with one of the worst nation-wide snowstorms in history. (people dieing, power outages, ect.)"

If you're going to be flippant about a national tragedy, please use correct grammar or at least a spell checker!

Hello,
I am a consultant for the company as well as a registered seller of the phones. Unfortunately that was the exact email that was sent out, and they have been notified of the error, and steps to insure this doesn't happen again have been taken thereof. I can tell you as a fact that the phone is not running Windows, and the OS is currently a Proprietary Linux OS. I have spoken with people in China who have used the phone, and it is real.

This is a scam. I ordered a unit more than two months ago. After repeated inquiries and requests for my purchase they sent me a low quality product with the logo ZZZPhone spray painted on it, and the plastic case feels like its goin to break anytime.

In the specs I had the option of including a torchlight, FM, GPS, Wi-fi, and bluetooth. Here is what I got:-

1. Torchlight was stick on.
2. No FM.
3. No Wi-Fi.
3 Bluetooth does not work.
4. GPS software(Navione) was in Chinese.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. IT IS A TOTAL RIPOFF.
