LG_AX830_open_front.jpgHey, see that Alltel LG phone at left? It's called the Glimmer. Dumb name, sure, but it's a pretty sweet-looking handset, a slide-out keyboard, and a touch screen. It's also got a 2-megapixel camera, an MP3 player with an equalizer, expandable memory, and various Alltell apps such as Alltel Navigation, Axcess Search, CityID and Axcess TV. Neat.

One catch: There's a pretty good chance that you can't have one, because a good part of the country falls outside the realm of Alltel's coverage. If you live in the Midwest, parts of the Southeastern seaboard, or a smattering of Southwest cities, you may be in luck. If you're in the Northeast, on the West coast, or in the upper Midwest--or, as one analyst told me, if your state voted for Kerry in 2004--you're probably not covered.

If Alltel is available in your state, or if you're willing to pay roaming fees while piggy-backing on Verizon, you can pick up a Glimmer tomorrow for $249.99, after a $100 mail-in-rebate.

If you're not sure either way, the Alltel coverage map included after the jump may help. Good news for everyone in Litchfield, CT.

I actually signed up for Alltel while living in Tucson, AZ... and on a national freedom plan it beats every price up here in Portland, OR. I have free roaming and long distance, great service everyone, and at an 1000 minute special i signed up for I never run out of minutes for less than 70 dollars a month. Niceee... that glimmer phone better be a good one, because another 2 year contract, here I come!
