Hello? Taliban? Can you hear me now?

If it's after dark, probably not. The Taliban has reportedly gone through with a threat to destroy the cell phone towers of Afghani wireless providers who refuse to shut down service at night.

Last month the terrorist group demanded that four of the region's largest mobile providers shut off mobile phone service after dark, because Taliban leaders were convinced that the CIA and other international groups were tracking and spying on them via their cell phone signals.

The Taliban has attacked about 10 towers since last month, causing about $2 million in damage, according to Afghanistan's telecom ministry. Shortly thereafter, providers complied with the group's demands.

Afghans, many of whom rely solely on their cell phones for communications, are not too pleased. Even some Taliban leaders are reportedly requesting that service be turned back on, the minister said.

"We see that some people are having problems, so we might change the times that the networks are shut down in the coming days,'' a Taliban spokesman told Reuters.

How very thoughtful.

a cell signal can only be triangulated within 8 miles, and is also easily confused with a loud yawn...this is just more of the usual fanatical paranoia from the tbans.
