Kia unveiled a near-production coupe concept, the Koup, at the New York Auto Show on Thursday morning, AutoWeek reports. I have to agree with one of the commenters below the article, who said it looks like a "very mean Civic coupe." According to the article, the Koup is built on a front-wheel drive unibody architecture and is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter, direct-injection four-cylinder engine that makes 290 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic with steering column-mounted paddle shifters solidifies the high-performance image and neatly brings Kia in line with the Hyundai Genesis Coupe launch (except that the Koup isn't an actual production car—yet).
Meanwhile, KickingTires managed to snap off a few interior shots (including the one above). Inside, the Koup has four bucket seats—it's a 2+2—with the front seats sporting white accents. There's a lot of carbon fiber and some heavy amber lighting in there too. The center stack looks like an overblown JVC stereo mini system, which may not be a good thing, but at least it makes for a suitably garish show car display.
