Dow Jones reported Friday that Hon Hai, a Taiwan ODM, has received a contract to manufacture the next iPhone. Incidentally, Hon Hai manufactures the current iPhone, too.
Honestly, the story boils down to this quote: "A Hon Hai official, who declined to be named, told Dow Jones Newswires that the company was in talks with Apple for the supply of a 'more advanced version' of the current iPhone." The rest of the story talks about what isn't known (everything else, basically) and why. Analysts have speculated that the new iPhone is due in May, and that's about it.
Recent patents seem to indicate that Apple thinks of the iPhone as a lifestyle companion, allowing one to program in an exercise plan, among other things. It's certainly true that the iPhone's cellular connection could be used as a data link to hook into some sort of "iFit" program.
Aside from that, however, there isn't much more to say. Those of you who buy PC motherboards may know Hon Hai as Foxconn; it is also said that the company manufactures the MacBook Air, the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3, and other high-profile tech items.
