The biggest surprise here is that it took so long: It seems that rumors of HD DVD's death weren't so exaggerated after all. The HD DVD Promotion Group ended last week by dissolving itself, likely because, well, it didn't really have anything to promote.

For those not directly involved in the organization, this move marks little more than a symbolic last nail in the format's coffin, and perhaps a good reason to hold that HD DVD wake you and a few close friends have been putting off.

HD DVD is survived by friends, family, and a lot of irritated consumers who are going to have to repurchase their entire HD movie library one more time.
