Seeing as how Guitar Hero has managed to permeate nearly every other aspect of the world, it's a bit surprising that it took so long to make a bid for the portable console gaming market. The largest obstacle in creating a faithful adaptation of the game has been the ability to adapt the guitar controllers, which are a huge factor in the game's massive popularity.
With the upcoming Guitar Hero: On Tour, Activision has taken a creative approach to the problem: It's packing the game with the Guitar Grip peripheral, an add-on that clamps snuggly onto the side of the Nintendo DS.
"We are continuing to introduce new and exciting ways to bring music to audiences with Guitar Hero," said Activision's head of publishing, Dusty Welsh. "The Guitar Hero Guitar Grip redefines how games can be played on handheld systems, and the integration of the microphone and touch screen gameplay on the DS further illustrates Guitar Hero's leadership in delivering the most unique and creative quality hardware and software on the market."
According to Activision, this latest version of Guitar Hero offers up the most diverse selection of songs, including selections by artists like Nirvana, OK Go and No Doubt.
The game will feature an E for Everyone rating and will be available this summer.
