Have you been in a supermarket with someone and run into one of those floor advertisements, or the little electronic coupon dispensers on the shelves? Inevitably your companion says something along the lines of, "What won't they stick an ad on?" In an age when ballparks adopt the names of office supply stores and router manufacturers, that's a logical question.
The answer, of course, is a big fat "nothing"--anything that advertisers can get their hands on is fair game. So it's logical that they would choose to boldly go where no flack has gone before, as soon as the opportunity presented itself. Iit also makes perfect sense that the first company to harness such a technology would be the folks who make Doritos, Frito-Lay.
The nacho-cheesy chip company is asking snackers in the U.K. to create a 30-second clip for crisps. The winner's entry will be shot into space via a high-frequency radar telescope based in Norway. The broadcast will take place in June and will be aimed directly at Ursa Major, a constellation known for its binge snacking.
Beyond the intergalactic fame, the winner will also receive a cool $40,000 in prize money and a spot on terrestrial TV as well.
