I'm on the ground at the CTIA 2008 trade show, where cell phone manufacturers come to show off their wares. You'll be seeing coverage on PCMag.com, Gearlog and Appscout throughout the week.
As one of the first announcements of the show, AT&T and Sony Ericsson said they're finally releasing the Z750a, which was announced last year at CTIA. If you want an example of how slow the US wireless carrier approval process is, there you have it - we've been seeing the Z750a at every press event for a year now.
It's still a lovely phone, though. The Z750a is a shiny egg-shaped flip phone that comes in three colors and has a 2-megapixel camera, a 2.2" 320x240 screen, a real Web browser and global high-speed data that lets it hit speedy 3G networks not only in the US, but also in Europe and around the world. Caller ID, time and date information appear in glowing letters on the outside of the phone. It's a stylish piece of work.
The Z750a will be available in early April for a shockingly low $49.99 with a two-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate. If it has Sony Ericsson's traditionally excellent call quality, that could make it one of the best buys on AT&T's network, and another nail in poor Motorola's coffin.
