One of the overlooked—and tech-laden—models at the New York International Auto Show was the 2009 Volvo XC60, Volvo's smaller, car-like crossover. Chief among its abilities is City Safety, which automatically applies the brakes if it detects that the XC60 is about to crash into the vehicle in front of it. But there's a lot to be find inside as well, including three stereo-system options.
The star of the interior show is an available 12-speaker Dynaudio Premium Sound system that decodes Dolby Pro Logic II and delivers a total of 650 watts. An optional "digital subwoofer" under the floor in the rear compartment adds an additional 260 watts. The entire system features three modes that optimize the sound for the driver, for both front seats, or for the rear seat. The top two stereo options also include MP3 and WMA CD playback and a USB port, while all three audio systems include AUX inputs for connecting a portable MP3 player.
The XC60 also features a Clean Zone Interior, which is based on Volvo's electronic climate control and its interior air quality system. As soon as you unlock the car with the remote, it ventilates the car for about a minute if it's above 50 degrees outside. The Swedish Asthma and Allergy Association recommends this interior for, we presume, asthma and allergy sufferers. (All joking aside, I'm one of them, so I could appreciate this.)
