I couldn't help thinking back to the Microsoft Surface tabletop computer as I was getting a demo of the Touch Table EES at Toy Fair. In fact, toward the beginning of the session, my demonstrator looked directly at my badge and said, "Well, I'm sure you're already familiar with Microsoft's product. Ours is sort of a kid-friendly version of that." But not surprisingly, the UI is nowhere near as advanced as the Surface; it functions like your standard touchscreen interface.
The Touch Table EES has a 21-inch touchscreen on top, surrounded by a large bezel. The device also features a DVD player, speakers, and A/V, USB and SD inputs (you may not be able to tell by the image, but since what we saw is a prototype, the DVD tray is just painted on).
Targeted at children ages 5 to 11, the Touch Table EES comes loaded with games and activities like math, trivia, puzzles, a calendar, and a virtual keyboard. The screen also swivels 90 degrees, doubling as a standard TV screen.
The device is set to hit stores in the fall and will retail for around $499. Additional content packs will be available next year.
