Are we really that far from a time when MP3 players will become fodder for Cracker Jack boxes? Honestly, at this rate, companies are going to have to start paying customers to take their low-end DAPs off of their hands. In the meantime, the $9.97 My Player Kids MP3 Player (clearly they didn't devote too much of their R&D fund to picking out a snappy name) will have to fill the void.
The first sub-$10 player I can attest to having seen (discount electronic store MP4 players included), the My Player features nine built in games, which, for the record, is about double the amount that the iPod ships with. There's also a built-in voice record and changeable faceplates.
Of course, the thing only has 32MB of built in memory, but heck, it is designed for the wee ones, and, for the record, I can think of a few grownups who would be more than happy to carry around 20 minutes of their favorite music.
If you're keen for half an album's worth of music and a few rounds of Snack Attack, you can pick up the My Player at Radio Shack.

I can hear it now...
Pretty soon people will be winning these at a caravel near you, all you have to do is hit 5 plates with a BB gun...
