When I spoke to One Laptop Per Child's (OLPC) Michail Bletsas, the organization's chief connectivity officer, he said that the lawsuit filed against his company by Nigerian keyboard manufacturer, Lagos Analysis Corporation (LANCOR) was "completely frivolous." He added:

I understand what they are claiming, but there's really no basis. We did buy a Nigeria keyboard, because we wanted to see the symbols--what a Nigerian keyboard looks like. We didn't buy a specific keyboard, we bought the first keyboard that we found in front of us.

A federal high court in Lagos differs. It rejected OLPC's attempt to have the suit dismissed.

Filed on November 22 of 2007, the suit claims that OLPC violated LANCOR's patented multilingual keyboard layout in the creation of its XO laptop.
