Road & Track posted a new photo of the revamped Acura TSX in advance of the car's upcoming debut at the New York International Auto Show, to be held March 21st to March 30th. The magazine's short blurb doesn't mention it, but this very car could be the first clean diesel Honda offers in the U.S.
While the report said that the car should go on sale in the spring, it won't contain the diesel engine at launch. In fact, Honda hasn't said what's going to propel the new car just yet, although some rumors around the Internet are predicting it's the same turbo four that's in the Acura RDX. But an Autoweek report from a couple of weeks ago noted that CEO Takeo Fukui announced Honda Motor Corp.'s new clean diesel will appear first on an Acura. He didn't say which vehicle at the time, but Honda sources had said it would be the TSX, probably by early next year or even sooner.
As for the engine itself, Honda's new 2.2-liter, four-cylinder i-DETC clean diesel will be available on the redesigned Honda Accord in Europe this summer, the report said. And as has been true for some time now, the European Accord and the TSX are virtually the same car. Meanwhile, a third report from Car & Driver predicts that the new diesel will make about 150 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque. I can't wait—along with the upcoming, revamped VW TDIs, it's about time the U.S. sees some real environmentally friendly options for the enthusiast driver again.
