I sure like the idea of universal chargers. And it seems safe to suggest that, with a little more cooperation on the part of device manufacturers, it wouldn't be that difficult to implement them in a big way, saving users some cash and taking a little of the load off the environment, with consumers reusing chargers across devices.

Of course that wouldn't mean that users wouldn't have to shell out money every time a charger was lost or busted, and really, who wants to be the person to attempt to justify that to a big, corporate tech company?

Granted, these new, slimmer Lenovo power adapters are still proprietary, charging just Lenovo products on the laptop end (namely ThinkPads, IdeaPads, and Lenovo 3000s), but they can also handle most cell phones, PDAs, and even some music players, when you opt for the adapters.

The adapters are 25 percent lighter than the previous models and are available now. As someone who brings his ThinkPad on business trips, I'm really sorry these weren't available in January when I flew to Vegas.

The charger will be priced at $119.

you don't know how much i pray and dream that this will happen one day that there is one adapter even if it is limited to one adapter for each type of equipment, ie. one for laptops one for cell phones ect., i would get emotional if it actually went to the extent that there was one universal adapter for everything, i just had to replace both of my laptop cords, one was replaced by hp as it was defective, but it lists for over 75 dollars, i was honest about both but the dog had chewed one of the cords up and that was on a laptop that was only a week old, when i called hp to order it and pay for it it was 70 dollars, so i ended up buying one at walmant that was universal[somewhat and it cost me 59 dollars, i couln't buy off of ebay as i looked for 2 weeks and no one listed my exact brand and number of the hp i had, and it would be more of a hassle and postage to try and return one to the seller off ebay so i went to good old walmant and at least i knew if it didn't work it would be simple and no postage to get my money back, THIS CONSTANTLY MAKING A CORD FOR JUST ONE DEVICE IS JUST PLAIN CRAZINESS AND EXTREMELY WASTEFUL OF THE ENVIORMENT, DON'T THESE COMPANIES UNDERSTAND WHAT KIND OF PUBLICITY THEY WOULD GET IF THEY DID SOMETHING THIS POSITIVE FOR PEOPLE AND THE ENVIROMENT,
