The public may have gotten its first taste of the top-of-the-line Hyundai Genesis during last night's Super Bowl ad. But the auto maker just released plenty of details on the 2009 revamp of its bread-and-butter Sonata sedan, Motor Trend is reporting—and it's more than your typical mid-cycle refresh, particularly when it comes to tech upgrades in the interior.
The 2009 Sonata will be offered in three trim levels.
- The base GLS sedan comes standard with an in-line 4 cylinder with 175 hp and a 5-speed automatic.
- The mid-level SE sedan also comes with the 4 cylinder but is also available with an optional 249 hp V6, again with the 5-speed automatic.
- The Limited model will come with all the luxury trimmings including power leather seats, a premium stereo, and a power sunroof.
A new center console and instrument cluster both use elements from Hyundai's own Veracruz crossover, the report said. There's also a standard auxiliary stereo input and a USB input for connecting portable MP3 players. In addition, options will include a new dual-zone climate control, two-stage heated seats, and a new touch-screen navigation unit—all of which should make the 2009 Sonata an even more viable competitor to the Accord, Camry, and Malibu than before.
