Audi just announced the 2009 A4 Avant Wagon and released some new photos. The car will be 10 percent lighter than the previous version and offer up to 50 cubic feet of carrying capacity. There's also a lane departure warning system and a side assist system for nearby cars. None of that is particularly huge news, but the interior upgrades are of special importance. The new interior features an electro-mechanical parking brake, which replaces the original mechanical version. The climate-control system is reported to be 10 percent more efficient while using a bit less fuel than the original one. For music, the Audi Music Interface (AMI) allows iPods to be connected. There are also two navigation systems—MMI Basic Plus and MMI with DVD—which allow the integration of cell phones as Bluetooth car phones. Finally, there's an optional Bang & Olufsen stereo system with 10 amplifiers and 14 speakers for a total of 505 watts of maximum output.
The new Audi A4 Avant will be available with Attraction, Ambition, and Ambiente equipment lines, following in the footsteps of its A4 and A6 forebears, along with an S line exterior and sport package upgrade as we noted with the Audi A4 sedan two weeks ago. Other options include air-conditioned comfort seats, a triple-zone climate control system, and a dynamic cornering light system called Adaptive Light. The car also offers an optional power liftgate and a reversible floor in case you want to transport something that would make a mess of the pristine interior.
