If anyone still doubts that hybrids and clean diesels can power desirable vehicles, have a look at the Italdesign-Guigiaro Quaranta. The car is estimated to hit 60 mph in about 4 seconds before soldiering on to a 155-mph top speed. What's unique about this car—other than the stunning design—is the powertrain, which consists of a 3.3 liter V6 along with two electric motors that operate together. The effect, the company claims, is to deliver power and response comparable to a gasoline V8, along with fuel consumption that's better than the average four-cylinder block.
The car features 20-inch wheels that are 9.5 inches wide; notice that there's barely any room in the wheel wells, even with the car's AWD system. And for anyone who thought the three-seater McLaren F1 was a bit odd inside, check this: The Quaranta seats four people in a 1+3 configuration, one in front, two in the back, and a child seat behind the driver. The powertrain mentioned above is yet another implementation of Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive.
