xohm-apple.jpg Corrected. Bummer. Polivka e-mailed me this morning to say he's in Virginia for "routine business meetings." Guess we'll see what's up with Apple in a few hours.

Original post. I normally don't report on rumors, but here's a little fact that you can spin into whatever conclusion you like. There's been a lot of speculation around on the Net about tomorrow's big Apple release being a laptop called the "Macbook Air," carrying WiMAX on board. Since Sprint's XOHM is the major player in national WiMAX right now, I thought of calling John Polivka, the spokesman for XOHM. Here's what his email says:

"I am away from the office Jan. 14-16 on business and unable to immediately assist you. My access to e-mail is limited, however I will try to respond when I can."

I tried to reach several people at Sprint to ask them more, but nobody has responded so far. Mmm. So the main spokesman for XOHM is mysteriously out of his office 'on business' for the first three days of Macworld. That's not a rumor, my friends, that's a fact. Wonder where he's hanging out today, tomorrow, and Wednesday?

We'll be blogging, analyzing, slicing and dicing Steve Jobs' keynote tomorrow starting at noon ET/9 AM PT, along with every other blog on the Web.

These kinds of auto-responses from wireless carrier employees amuse me. Sure, XOHM hasn't launched yet, but EVDO sure as heck has... so what exactly is his excuse for "access to e-mail [being] limited"?

You didn't know? AT&T has a five-year contract to provide exclusive wireless access at Apple's offices. :)

Seriously, though, if this happens, watching Apple repeatedly screw the AT&T 'exclusivity' never gets old. First T-Mobile Wi-Fi, now Sprint WiMAX ...
