I have faith that if anything can distract our readers from the Steve Jobs Apple porn, it's actual porn: high-definition porn.
Regardless of whether or not you want to see your favorite adult entertainers in such a crystal clear format, porn companies are releasing more and more of their titles in HD. One such company, Digital Playground, reportedly decided that it will ditch HD DVD in favor of Blu-Ray by the end of 2008, though the studio has not made any official announcements.
"Blu-ray is outselling HD-DVD 2 to 1," a spokeswoman for Digital Playground tells Gearlog, but the studio is "not dropping anything right now."
Digital Playground currently has 20 titles on HD and will have 9 on Blu-Ray by the end of February, she said. "I can't say when we will have selected one format over the other - it depends entirely on the market."
I had the opportunity to escape from CES for a few hours last week to check out the annual AVN porn convention -- to talk HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray, of course. Companies like Hustler and Vivid said they are currently producing movies in both formats, though a recent decision by Warner Brothers to go Blu-Ray had some porn producers leaning toward Blu-Ray.
Will porn help kill HD DVD like it helped kill Betamax in the 1980s? Stay tuned.
You may now return to your regularly scheduled Apple Porn.
