At this week's Consumer Electronics Show, one of the larger stories was the defection of Warner Bros. to the Blu-ray camp. Naturally, some wondered what effect this would have on other HD DVD supporters, including the adult film industryand Microsoft.
The latter is important because Microsoft ships an optional HD DVD player for its Xbox 360 console, which has contributed quite significantly to the success of the HD DVD format.
Earlier in the week, Reuters wrote a piece claiming that Microsoft would consider a Blu-ray peripheral. "It should be consumer choice; and if that's the way they vote, that's something we'll have to consider," Albert Penello, group marketing manager for Xbox hardware told the wire service.
But on Friday, Penello told Gizmodo that the gist of the Reuters story and the headline was wrong, and that Microsoft was "not thinking about it", with "it" being the design of an Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive. So I suppose that clears that up.

Microsoft is so accustomed to having a monopoly that it thinks it can impose its will in any market. This time they have miscalculated. Who wants a player without movies?
