If you spent the recent holidays with family and friends you might not have noticed that Microsoft's Xbox Live service had some significant down time. While the reasons for the outages have yet to be fully explained, we're hearing rumors that Microsoft's head honchos may have been visited by the Ghosts of Gametime Outages, because the company is making nice by offering Xbox Live members to a full Xbox Live Arcade title free of charge.

GameDaily has posted Microsoft's letter to Xbox Live users. The timing (January 4th) makes makes it a bit like the gift for the 13th day of Christmas.
