apple tv 2.0

Apple will delay the release of its software update for Apple TV for another week or two, the company announced Wednesday.

The free software upgrade was initially supposed to be ready by Tuesday, but customers will now have to wait a few more weeks to get their hands on technology that will allow users to download movies, including HD titles, directly from their TVs.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled Apple TV 2.0 earlier this month at Macworld. The upgrade no longer requires the use of a computer, and will download movies directly to the TV in high-definition, Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound or DVD quality. Apple 2.0 also includes audio and video podcast downloads from iTunes and videos from YouTube directly to the TV.

Apple expects to have 1,000 titles available for 2.0 by the end of February, including over 100 titles in HD.

Version 2.0 will retail for $229, down from $299 for the original, which made its debut in September 2006.
