Ever since A New Hope came out in 1977, fans around the globe have been paying tribute to Star Wars in their own unique ways. This fanfilm created by a trio of Massachusetts-based OG fanboys is one of the oldest, most elaborate, and arguably best tributes ever paid to George Lucas's trilogy.
After catching Episode IV during its original theatrical run at a theater in Worcester, MA, Jim, John, and Gary set out designing their own models and costumes based on the film. After amassing the collection, they began filming scenes from the film on a Super 8 camera. The project grew into a 50 minute film entitled Star Wars: A Remake.
The results are stunning in their own garage blockbuster sort of way. A site has been created to immortalize the project, here, featuring the making of the movie, a download of the entire film, stills, and guidelines for building your very own R2D2.
