Add this to the Postal Service's ever-growing list of woes: Netflix apparently cost the USPS $41.9 million dollars over the past two years, thanks to the "nonmachinable nature" of the company's semi-patented mailers. And if Netflix doesn't change their ways, the envelopes may end up costing the USPS another estimated $61.5 million over the next two years, according to Engadget.
In light of these numbers, the Inspector General's office sent the company a letter, stating that either NetFlix redesign their problematic mailers, or face a $0.17-per-envelope fee, which would reduce the company's per-subscriber income by 67-percent.
With friendly persuasion like that, we're guessing that those familiar red envelopes will be getting a facelift, in the near future.
