We had to wait for resident Pleo foster parent, Lance Ulanoff, to leave the office to post this one. Honestly, it's a little bit upsetting. The thing did manage to illicit some guilty chuckles, but after spending some time with the robotic dinosaur, I couldn't help but feel a bit squeamish at the site of the little guy being more or less tortured and eventually killed by two dudes with a plastic bag at their disposal. When the robotic revolution comes, this will be exhibit A in the case against the humans.
It's not as violent or graphic as it could be--chalk it up to the fact that the robo dino has a $400 price tag, or perhaps some genuine feelings of regret, thanks to Pleo's surprisingly life-like behavior.
Still, if you're a real Pleo lover, it's best just to skip this video, lest it haunt your nightmares. Here's a video of a sheep wearing a skeleton mask instead. It's slightly less soul-crushing.
Lance has his own thoughts on the video. Check them out, after the jump.
I just finished testing Pleo and while I'll admit to dangling him by his tail (Ugobe suggested doing this), it never occurred to me to hit and attempt to damage the adorable robot (how many people besides sociopaths want to hurt cute, defenseless things?). I think the video is supposed to be funny, but it comes across as graphic and a disturbing. I had to remind myself that I was watching robot and not actual animal abuse.
On the other hand, eight-year olds (the suggested minium age for the robot) can be pretty tough on toys--and virtually anything they own. So maybe Pleo needs to hold up to this kind of abuse. That could be a problem since, by the end of this video, Pleo stopped responding (did they "kill" it?). Then again, can you blame him? Watch the video at your own risk.

this is a horrible thing to do. i watched the vid and almost barfed. it was horrifying. i want to know who's idea it was to do this!!! although, it does show that the Pleo does have some kind of "feelings" and can also have "emotions" one of the best examples was when Pleo was put in the bag. also, WHO'S IDEA WAS IT TO GIVE PLEO CHOKING NOISES!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's "elicit," not "illicit," for goodness' sake!

You have got to be joking when you call that video "graphic" and "disturbing." Honestly, I was almost scared to watch the video after reading this description. I thought I would see people mutilating a robot (no cause for alarm there anyway), or shouting at it, or cursing, or any number of actually "disturbing" things. There is none of this - just a couple of guys doing things to a T O Y that are far more gentle than nearly any average 8 to 10 year old child is going to be. Give me a break - barfing... haha, please! This toy doesn't feel pain, it's simply responding to sensors in a way that a geeky programmer - quite possibly living in his mom's basement - decided would be amusing.

It is a very disturbing video, what happens if UGOBE sees this video....
